DOMa Kids is an educational programme for children by DOMa, the independent institution for contemporary architecture based in Athens, Greece. With essential architectural concepts at its core, and through individual workshops with specific themes, DOMa Kids encourages children to creatively understand their relationship to the environment and come closer to architectural thought.
Through group games and activities, children aged 6-12 discover the basic concepts of architecture and compose in an experiential way their own proposals, thus building their own understanding of the built environment. The first five workshops of the programme followed the concepts of Roof, Wall, Opening, Staircase, and Street.
The visual identity of DOMa Kids is based on three principles: geometry, repetition, and adaptation. With the geometric shapes of the circle, the square, and the triangle as our starting point, we created a new type, where each letter can be used as a structural element that “builds” visual representations of the themes presented at the workshops. A short animation brings this idea to life, by building the DOMa Kids logo block by block. The result is a typographical visual identity that is at the same time illustrational, and which explores in its own way the basic concepts of architecture (scale and proportion, axes and symmetry, perspective and view).
