The information website and e-shop, for a practice that explores unknown territories of movement for healthy aging and lifelong learning

Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Frucek are contemporary dance artists and founders of Fighting Monkey Practice, a training programme for dancers and movement practitioners. Linda and Jozef have been developing the Fighting Monkey Practice since 2002, and are constantly doing workshops teaching it around the world.

They commissioned Nowhere Studio to design a new website that would be an online home for Fighting Monkey activities, and a place for both newcomers to and older members of the programme. The new website is at the same time an entry point into the world of Fighting Monkey; a knowledge base with on-demand video classes and information about the system’s global network; and a dynamic platform for booking workshops on Linda and Josef’s international teaching calendar.

We redesigned the website with functionality in mind. Technically speaking, it’s an eshop, but the design and the overall visual approach are taking away the focus from the products (in this case, booking live workshops and buying online video classes) and highlight the benefits of the programme, its inspirational philosophy, and its overall culture.

We used high-contrast, black and white photography, combined with bold typography, to convey the high-intensity character of Fighting Monkey methods and the energy of the dancers’ movements. Yellow complements the colour palette and breaks the neutrality of grayscale, especially at the points where we wanted to direct the user’s attention to interactions, announcements, and offers.
