Georges Batzios Architects is one of the most prominent architectural firms in Greece. The studio has earned distinction through its participation in numerous architectural competitions, undertaking projects that span across various scales – from shaping interior spaces to complex buildings and urban design.
We had the privilege of working on their new brand identity, expanding its applications to print and digital mediums, including stationery, a portfolio book, and a portfolio website.
The brand identity is founded entirely on typography. We chose Aperçu, a monospaced font from Colophon Foundry. Aperçu is a contemporary and versatile typeface that seamlessly combines modern aesthetics with functionality, resulting in a clean, sophisticated, and professional appearance. The use of a monospaced font, characterized by equal character widths, creates a structured, grid-like visual, with each letter serving as a structural element. These elements come together to form typographic structures, paying homage to architectural design.
The symmetry between the first two words, and their single-letter deviation from the third word, served as our inspiration for creating the logo. This asymmetric arrangement of words accentuates the studio's experimental and dynamic character.
We enriched the visual language by adopting a codification structure to name each project using basic information. The coded names impart a brutalist aesthetic to the studio's communication applications.
The studio's portfolio website follows the same principles. We've incorporated brutalist typography elements and asymmetrical layouts to give the website a distinct and memorable appearance. These elements are balanced with a clear and intuitive navigation structure, allowing visitors to focus on the content. We've used a simple menu with easily understandable labels to enhance navigation and user engagement.
